Fire Alarm Technician

Job Brief

Lifeline Fire Protection is looking for an experienced, fully licensed fire alarm technician who can work proficiently in both an independent role and as a mentor for junior technicians. Alarm Technician will install and update fire alarm systems in commercial and residential buildings. You will perform inspections, test alarms, and troubleshoot or document any issues. You will also respond to emergency service calls and ensure the systems are functioning properly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conducts repairs and alterations of fire alarm field devices, panels, and components
  • Conducts component replacements to devices such as (but not limited to) manual pull stations, smoke and heat detectors and alarms, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, gauges on fire protection (sprinkler and standpipe) systems, emergency lighting units, exit signs, and other fire/ life safety devices
  • Performs monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections and tests on fire alarm systems and components in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code, and applicable CAN/ULC standards
  • Completes work orders and administrative duties to communicate technician documents to office staff
  • Uses company templates to complete applicable test reports
  • Experienced in conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, and key valves / switches on fire protection systems
  • Completed service acknowledgements through phone and laptop programs / software
  • Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals
  • Notifies building staff, local fire department, and monitoring stations of shutdown to fire alarm system when shutdown of fire systems is required to perform maintenance, repairs, and/or replacement
  • Operates professionally and safely on ladders, lifts, platforms, in confined spaces
  • Records tests/ inspections in respective building fire log books
  • Experienced in high-rise and low-rise residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
  • Experience with basic power tools

  • Excellent communication; to customers, coworkers, and non-technical staff
  • Provides solutions-based recommendations, and objective oriented feedback
  • Instructing and training non-technical persons of the basic operation of key fire alarm system components
  • Travels to properties and maintains proper handling/care of testing/inspections tools, equipment, and materials

Requirements of Position

Education:  Post-Secondary education in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: Must be fully licensed/ Certified Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA)
